Cooler Weather

Just a reminder that we have reached that time when the kids need to be more prepared for recess. We do ask that all kids have a heavy coat, a hat, and gloves for all recesses. If there is snow on the ground they must have boots, a change of shoes, and snow pants to go off hard surface. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is prepared, as we will go outside unless it is below zero.

Polar Express Day in 3S

On Wednesday, December 22, we will be having Polar Express Day in 3S. The students may wear their pajamas and bring their slippers to wear also. We will be reading the book in the morning while having hot chocolate and donuts. We will also do a related writing assignment. We will watch the movie in the afternoon. This is a memorable day for my students every year and I really enjoy it.

Book Orders

A new book order is coming home with your child today! Books make great gifts for Christmas. If you would like to order a book for your child, you may do so by ordering online and just send me a quick email that it is for your child. That way when the order comes in I can notify you to pick up the book instead of sending it home with your child. Remember our class receives free books for you ordering online!

Book Orders are due Tuesday, December 7th.

December News

Important Dates:
December 22: 2:25 dismissal
December 23- December 31: No School (Winter Break)

It's hard to believe it's going to be December already. It will be January before I know it. December is always a fast month here at school, but we will get as much done as we can.

In math we will continue to work with measurement and possibly start multiplication/division before Winter break. Multiplication is always a fun thing for third graders to learn as it is something they have not done before.

For reading/language arts we will continue working with our third theme, which is Incredible stories. The kids really seem to enjoy this theme. Some of the skills we will work on will be: following directions, adding -er and -est, verbs (past, present, and future), drawing conclusions, adding -y and -ly, story structure, prefixes un-, bi-, dis-, mis-, and non-, and homophones.

Social Studies:
Right now we are learning about how communities have changed over time. Our next chapter is about our country's history. We will learn about the Native Americans, building communities, fighting for freedom, Declaration of Independence,  Revolutionary War, Lewis and Clark, Westward Movement, and the Civil War.

Science:
We will be working with chapter 4, which is on plants and animals living together. We will learn about producers and consumers, herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, prey and predators, germs and disease.

Cursive handwriting:
Hopefully in the month of December we will begin learning cursive. This is normally something we would have begun at the beginning of the year, but it was put on hold for a few months. This is something I feel is important for the students to learn and I know it is something they enjoy learning.

Happy holidays to you and your family!

Homework for the week of 11/21

There will not be a reading log, spelling, or word of the week homework this week. This is due to the students only coming two days this week.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome to My Blog!

Thanks for visiting my blog. This will be my way of updating you with what's going on in my third grade classroom.

Right now we're just finishing up our fall reading incentive. Tomorrow, Monday, November 15, the kids who earned the reward will be going to Jefferson County Park for games and S'mores. Bundle up as it's going to be cold! In the afternoon the same kids will get to watch the movie, "The Incredibles." Our theme was Reading Saves the Day.

We were just at Jefferson County Park for our fall field trip also. I will try to get pictures posted very soon.
